This is the eighth Super Bowl since the 2001 season that has featured Brady, Bill Belichick and the Patriots. Another win would give Brady the most Super Bowl rings of any player in the history of the NFL. He’s currently tied at five with Charles Haley.

For the Eagles, this would be their first Super Bowl victory. Their most recent appearance in the Super Bowl was against these same Patriots back in 2004, a game they lost by a narrow margin.

This time, the Eagles will be attempting to take down the Patriots with Nick Foles at quarterback. The backup took over after Carson Wentz went down with a season-ending knee injury before the playoffs.

Otherwise, both teams are coming into the game relatively healthy. Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has been cleared to play after he suffered a concussion during the AFC Championship Game. A few players on each team battled illness during the week leading up to the game but appear good to go. Brady, who played with stitches in his thumb in the AFC Championship Game, should have no limitations in this one.

Once upon a time, the Patriots beat the Eagles in a Super Bowl. The city of Philadelphia has been waiting 13 years to get its revenge. On Sunday, that chance is finally here.

The Patriots, won Super Bowl XXXIX, 20-17, but the game wasn’t really that close. On Sunday, with the Lombardi Trophy again on the line, they’ll face off beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.

After opening as 5.5-point favorites (and some sportsbooks had them as high as 6) following Conference Championship Sunday, the Patriots are no longer quite that revered by Vegas books. Some heavy action on the Eagles shifted the line to 4.5 by late last week, and by Monday, some Vegas sportsbooks started offering Patriots -4. But that’s where it has stayed ever since.

Here’s everything you need to know for the 2018 Super Bowl, including who will be performing at halftime and who will be singing the national anthem as well as how to watch the big game.

The Eagles, of course, are searching for their first Super Bowl victory. But you know all the storylines by now.

Given the teams that were in contention for Super Bowl 52 as late as the conference championship round of the playoffs, NBC should be happy it ended up with Eagles vs. Patriots.

Super Bowl 2018 odds, predictions

So of course the majority of SN’s experts are picking New England to beat Philadelphia — but not all of them.

10 matchups that could decide Eagles vs. Patriots

After the Eagles dispatched the Atlanta Falcons in a gritty 15-10 home victory, and the patriots survived in miracle fashion against the Saints in the NFC Divisional Playoffs, Foles and Keenum will meet Sunday after both opening the season as backup quarterbacks.

The George Halas Trophy was on hand at the NovaCare Complex on Wednesday as the Eagles returned to work, but Doug Pederson stressed the value of staying focused blocking out outside distractions to his team as the week began.

“We’ve just got to keep doing what we’ve been doing,” Pederson said. “The guys are going to prepare themselves the way they have all season long. It’s obviously a great honor, a great opportunity faced in front of us and we just attack each day the same.

“Each week in some of the games that we’ve played, there’s been the emotional highs of coming off of like a — like the Rams, for instance. That’s a great example, winning that football game and having to go on the road the next week in New York and still having that emotional high and feeding off of that. But it just comes down to the leadership of the football team, keeping the guys in the moment, and just attacking each week as it comes.”

The New England Patriots host the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL Super Bowl Game on Sunday (3:30 p.m. ET, CBS/CBSSports.com). The Patriots are 7.5-point favorites in the NFL playoffs, down one from the opener. The line had moved as high as 9.5 before concerns over QB Tom Brady’s hand send it diving. Brady returned to practice Friday.

The Over-Under, or total number of points Vegas thinks will be scored, is 45.5, down from an open of 47.

Before you lock in any picks for Eagles-Patriots, you need to see what Galin Dragiev has to say.

Last week, Dragiev told SportsLine readers to back New England -13.5 over Tennessee, saying that the game would “get ugly quickly.” Sure enough, the Patriots built a 21-7 halftime lead en route to a 21-point demolition.

WATCH LIVE CLICK HERE NOW!!!!

The Jags were tops in the league in rushing yards at 141.4 per game, seven more than the closest team. In the postseason, their 159.5 rushing average is over 25 more than anyone else.

Part of his success: Dragiev, a daily fantasy sports specialist, learned early on to predict the outcome of the game before determining how success trickles down to individual players, so he spent more time studying team outcomes than projecting individual players. When it comes to predictions, he trusts numbers above all else.

Eagles RB Leonard Fournette, despite missing a portion of last week’s game with an ankle injury, piled up 109 yards rushing and three touchdowns against the Steelers. He’s topped 100 yards from scrimmage three of the last five weeks and scored five times during that span.

Strikingly, that improved Dragiev to 16-4 in his past 20 NFL picks, a stunning 80 percent cash rate. Anyone who has followed his advice is up big.

Now, he has examined every angle, every matchup and every trend in Eagles vs. Patriots and locked in his pick. You can only see it over at SportsLine.

Dragiev knows the Eagles rely on defense and running the ball, both of which could help them stay within a spread that’s approaching double-digits.

Defensively, the Eagles were second in scoring defense (16.8 points per game) and No. 1 against the pass (169.9 yards per game) by a wide margin.

But just because the Eagles can run the ball and play tough defense doesn’t mean they’ll keep it close against Tom Brady’s Pats in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Even if the Patriots are stymied through the air, they’ve been able to run effectively. Dion Lewis had 141 yards from scrimmage against the Titans, 133 against the Jets in Week 17 and 153 against the Bills in Week 16. He had 20 catches over that span.

The Patriots will also likely get running back Rex Burkhead (knee) back from injury. Burkhead has six touchdowns in his past four games and gives New England another versatile player out of the backfield in the AFC title game. He has been sidelined since Dec. 17 and practiced on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday.

It’s no surprise that Dragiev is leaning Under, but he knows there’s a critical x-factor that determines which side of Eagles-Patriots you need to be all over. He’s only sharing his strong pick over at SportsLine.

Brady will also continue to look the direction of James White, who had 11 rushing yards and a TD against the Titans and added four catches and another score. White missed Weeks 16 and 17 with an ankle injury before returning last week.

Super Bowl 2018 odds, predictions

The Super Bowl in 2018 seems relatively easy to predict if one goes by the odds. The Patriots opened as 5 1/2-point favorites over the Eagles (a line that has shifted to 4 1/2) in Super Bowl 52.

So of course the majority of SN’s experts are picking New England to beat Philadelphia — but not all of them.
